Critical Illness Insurance

Critical Illness Insurance … because recovery will be your first priority

Getting sick isn’t something any of us like to think about. But it happens. If it does, thanks to improvements in healthy living and medical science, there is a good chance you will recover and get on with your life.

But getting better costs money. Treating and coping with illness can mean significant and often unexpected costs.

What’s the chance I’ll ever need Critical Illness Insurance?

Did you know that you have a greater chance of getting a critical illness before you’re 75, than you do of dying? That probably seems scary. But the good news is that the majority of people who are diagnosed with a critical illness before age 75 recover and get on with life.

In fact, statistics* show that:

  • Mortality rates from heart disease and stroke have decreased by 70% since 1952.
  • While women have a 1 in 9 chance of developing breast cancer, they only have a 1 in 27 chance of dying from it.
  • While men have a 1 in 7 chance of developing prostate cancer, and only a 1 in 26 chance of dying from it.

If you were diagnosed with a critical illness, like the rest of us, you’d want to focus on your recovery. But what about money? Treating an illness is often associated with unexpected costs – not just medicine the government doesn’t cover or getting treatment somewhere else. There are also costs to travel to and from medical appointments, and costs to get someone to help you at home. And what if you need to renovate your home to accommodate a wheelchair or a chairlift? Well, that costs money too.

What conditions are typically covered?

Depending on the plan you choose, if you’re diagnosed with any of the Covered Conditions defined in your contract and you survive the waiting period (30 days in most cases), you’ll receive a cash benefit to spend as you like. You choose the amount and type of coverage you need.
